POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Receptionist position serves as a crucial link between patients and the clinical staff, working collaboratively to support direct patient services. Key responsibilities include providing excellent customer service, efficient appointment scheduling, and maintaining a professional environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Works as a team with other staff to provide the best patient experience, including cordial customer service and collaboration within the front and back office support team.
- Welcome and greet patients/clients/visitors, determining their purpose of visit and directing accordingly.
- Provide information to incoming callers according to established policies, protocols, and guidelines, and transfer calls as needed.
- Schedule patient flow based on established protocol and guidelines to serve an adequate number of patients.
- Carefully screen patient registration information and other documents to ensure accuracy and update the computer system(s).
- Practice confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with NVIH policy and HIPAA/HITECH requirements.
- Handle patient complaints using problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, referring to appropriate personnel as needed.
- Maintain patient waiting areas, office files, and desk areas in an organized and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned, promoting teamwork, and adhering to NVIH policies and procedures.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent, General Education Diploma (GED).
- One (1) year Customer Service experience required; previous experience in a healthcare setting or medical reception experience preferred.
- Proven ability to provide excellent customer service, anticipate customer needs, and leave them feeling satisfied.
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, serving the needs of the clinic and patients efficiently and productively.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and time management skills, capable of meeting productivity standards independently and in a team environment.
- Computer skills to efficiently use scheduling systems, update information, and process documents, including electronic health record systems.
- Familiarity with HIPAA/HITECH regulations and other privacy laws to maintain confidentiality of all protected information.
- Reliable transportation and ability to adhere to regular attendance.
- Prioritizes Native applicants in hiring practices.
