About the role
The Medical Receptionist supports the day-to-day customer service, scheduling, and clerical functions of two clinics in SHAC: Health Services and Counseling Services.
Responsibilities
- Provides information about a wide range of medical and counseling services.
- Checks-in patients, navigates and completes clinic forms, verifies and enters health insurance information, and schedules follow-up visits.
- Uses a scheduling prioritization matrix to ask follow-up questions involving personal or sensitive information to schedule appointments appropriately.
- Acts as a liaison between students and SHAC providers to ensure students receive the care they need.
- Creates a welcoming and inclusive environment for the diverse student body at PSU, as well as faculty/staff and the larger PSU community.
- Determines and clarifies SHAC eligibility rules prior to scheduling an appointment, conducts data entry including entering pronouns and preferred names for students, and assists with PSU immunization requirements.
Requirements
- At least 6 months of experience by date of hire in a high volume customer service position, preferably in a medical or mental health customer service position.
- Ability to remain calm and focused while working under pressure.
- Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience using discretion while working with sensitive information.
- Experience working with health insurance plans and electronic entry of insurance policy information.
- Experience working in a college health environment.
- Experience working with Banner and Point and Click electronic health record system.
Qualifications
- From Classification: Two years of general clerical experience, including typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents.
- An Associate’s degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology, or a private school of business certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology combined with one year of general clerical experience.
- Note: College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
