Position Description
Bluebird Kids Health is seeking a Medical Receptionist II with a patient and family-first mindset. This role works alongside our mission-based clinical team, greeting patients, managing appointments, and ensuring smooth operations. Key responsibilities include:
- Greeting patients and visitors, answering phone calls, and scheduling appointments.
- Checking patients in/out and managing patient flow.
- Updating patient tracking in EMR.
- Promoting the use of the patient portal.
- Verifying forms and reconciling as needed.
- Maintaining accurate patient information.
- Scheduling patient appointments.
- Troubleshooting insurance coverage and billing concerns.
- Training new hire receptionists.
- Serving as a mentor and trainer for new employees.
- Modeling professionalism, patient-centered communication, and workflow excellence.
What You’ll Do
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, experience in a healthcare setting, and a genuine interest in working with children and their families. Specific duties include:
- Greet patients and visitors, answer phone calls, and schedule appointments.
- Check patients in/out and manage patient flow.
- Update patient tracking in EMR.
- Promote the use of the patient portal.
- Verify forms and reconcile as needed.
- Maintain accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information.
- Scan insurance cards and driver's licenses as needed.
- Schedule patient appointments within operational standards.
- Troubleshoot insurance coverage and billing concerns.
- Aid in training new hire receptionists.
- Serve as a mentor and trainer for new employees.
- Model professionalism, patient-centered communication, and workflow excellence.
- Complete insurance verification up to 3 days prior to patients' visits.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, coinsurance, and past due balances.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitization of the reception and waiting areas.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
What You’ll Need
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Medical front office and insurance verification experience (preferred).
- Knowledge: Knowledge of medical terminology, proficient computer and EMR skills.
- Skills: Excellent customer service, excellent phone etiquette, task-oriented, strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, excellent interpersonal skills, friendliness, empathy, patience, kindness, and politeness.
- Abilities: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong attention to detail, ability to work in a combination of medical office and exam rooms, frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions common in clinical settings.
