Responsibilities
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone, promptly and professionally.
- Answers or refers inquiries to ensure optimal patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization.
- Schedules appointments in person or by telephone to keep patient appointments on schedule.
- Notifies providers of patient arrivals and reminds them of service delays.
- Verifies patient charts are complete and up-to-date, facilitates form completion, obtains signatures, and collects co-pays.
- Comforts patients by anticipating their anxieties, answering questions, and maintaining the reception area.
- Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
- Accurately and timely collects patient copays or other financial obligations.
- Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock, anticipating supply needs, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt, scheduling equipment service and repairs.
- Maintains confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures.
- Photocopies, types, schedules radiology work, prepares medical records, and types various forms.
- Receives and delivers patients' specimens to the lab.
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year front office administrative experience, preferably in healthcare environment.
- Working knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Working knowledge of health insurance industry.
- Enthusiastic commitment to providing exceptional customer service to patients and internal customers.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize and balance workload to service patients and meet deadlines and requirements.
- Self-motivated, self-directed, and willing to go above and beyond to get the job done.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment such as printer, scanner, fax, and/or copier.
Computer Skills
- High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Typing speed of 45-50 WPM.
- Working knowledge of any medical software/systems (preferable).
Physical Demands
- Semi-repetitive type work requiring periods of concentration for varied time cycles as prescribed by the tasks.
- Continuous periods of sitting.
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk, or hear.
- Frequent reaching with hands and arms.
- Occasional standing, walking.
- Periodically lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment
- Normal working conditions as found within an office setting, wherein there is controlled temperature and a low noise level.
