Role Overview

Responsible for providing direct professional services in the evaluation and treatment of clients in outpatient environment at a community mental health center. The primary focus of this position will be mental health; substance use and physical health as it relates to clients.

Essential Duties

  • Function as the medical team representative to a multidisciplinary treatment team designed to offer comprehensive behavioral health services.
  • Evaluate clients for mental health, substance use and medical disorders, determine the appropriate course of treatment for the clients.
  • Provides direct client care centering the voice of the client in an inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Diagnose, manage, treat, and prescribe medication for a variety of acute and chronic illnesses with an emphasis on substance use and mental health.
  • Assesses client health by interviewing clients, performing physical examinations, reviewing medications, and reviewing medical histories.
  • Interprets and evaluates client data to determine client management and treatment options.
  • Institute emergency measures and emergency treatment or appropriate stabilization measures.
  • Documents client care services by charting client and department records.
  • Instruct and counsel clients by describing therapeutic regimens, providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living, promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing client management plans.
  • Attend committee meetings, staff meetings and inter-agency meetings as required.
  • Participate in on call coverage schedule on a rotating basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited university.
  • Understanding and commitment to medications for addiction treatment and harm reduction principles required.
  • Strong understanding of substance use treatment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be evaluated and considered.
  • Licenses And Certifications:
    • DEA Certification required.
    • Licence to practice medicine in the state of Colorado required.
    • Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and a clean driving record required.
    • Board certified or eligible with plans for certification.
