Medical Provider - Full Time and Part Time-Community-Based
Role Overview
A Physician (MD or DO) is needed to help us in our endeavor to build the healthiest community in the nation... one person at a time. This position is based at the Murphy Center in Fort Collins, Colorado, a nationally recognized collaborative service center dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
About the role
The Murphy Center serves as a centralized hub where more than 20 organizations provide access to over 40 services for nearly 3,000 individuals annually. Through a strong partnership with Homeward Alliance and numerous community organizations, the Murphy Center helps connect clients to healthcare, housing resources, behavioral health services, employment support, and other critical community resources.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for adults with acute and chronic health conditions.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Deliver evidence-based care for conditions commonly experienced by individuals facing homelessness, including chronic disease management, infectious diseases, wound care, and preventative health needs.
- Prescribe and manage medications, including psychiatric medications and medications for addiction treatment (MAT), as clinically appropriate.
- Function as the medical representative within a multidisciplinary treatment team designed to provide integrated, whole-person care.
- Collaborate closely with behavioral health clinicians, nursing staff, case managers, and community partners to coordinate comprehensive treatment plans.
- Institute emergency measures, stabilization interventions, and referrals to higher levels of care when clinically indicated.
- Support harm reduction principles and trauma-informed approaches to care.
- Foster strong working relationships with Homeward Alliance and other community partners serving individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, state, and federal requirements.
- Participate in on-call coverage schedules as assigned.
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited university
- More than three years of experience working in a related field required
- Understanding and commitment to medications for addiction treatment and harm reduction principles required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be evaluated and considered
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Current Colorado medical license or ability to obtain prior to start date
- DEA registration required
- Board certification or eligibility with plans to obtain certification
- Valid Colorado driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience providing integrated care, behavioral health care, addiction medicine, primary care, community health, or care for underserved populations
- Experience treating co-occurring medical, psychiatric, and substance use disorders
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or significant social determinants of health
- Spanish language skills preferred; additional language skills are also valued
- Experience practicing with a high degree of autonomy and clinical decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams and community partnerships
- More than two years of experience in treating and servicing persons with substance use and mental health needs preferred
- Strong understanding of substance use treatment and knowledge of withdrawal management processes preferred
