Responsibilities
- Provide medical assistant care under the supervision of physicians, providers, and/or registered nurses in various ambulatory settings.
- Greet patients and guests using AIDET, ensuring an excellent service experience, and keep patients informed of delays while offering alternatives.
- Perform administrative duties, including rooming functionality and documentation (vitals, pain, reason for visit, review of medications, social, surgical, family, and medical history).
- Complete work in the EMR in-baskets, telephone communication, MyChart messaging, and medical record documentation.
- Obtain reports, results, and medical records; complete insurance/disability forms, precertification, and authorizations.
- Perform point-of-care testing, transcribe orders, or enter orders (protocol).
- Assist with bump lists, wait lists, and appropriate work queues (WQs).
- Schedule appointments, including follow-up visits, in a high customer service environment efficiently and timely across the healthcare continuum.
- Perform patient outreach and call backs for messages received in pools, MyChart, and confirmation calls.
- Administer vaccines and document appropriately per established policies.
- Collect and handle specimens per established protocols, including proper labeling and safety handling.
- Assist physicians/providers with monitoring and reporting lab results.
- File reports, labs, radiology reports, and miscellaneous correspondence in the EMR and attach results to appropriate orders.
- Obtain prior authorization for medications, procedures, and testing.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members and patients while upholding the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Maintain working knowledge of regulatory standards and sustain these in daily operations.
- Demonstrate flexibility, multitask in a fast-paced environment, and adjust to patient volume.
- May be asked to work at other ambulatory offices based on volume.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Requirements
- Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
- Experience with electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection.
- Epic experience preferred.
- Excellent organizational, written/verbal communication, and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated performance of excellent customer service skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by NJAC (13:35-6.4) approved certifying body.
- Current certification from a recognized certifying board approved by the NJ Board of Medical Examiners (a complete listing is available in the Human Resource Department).
- Current BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
