Responsibilities
- Post insurance, electronic (ERA/835), EFT, mailed, and patient payments accurately within established timelines.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERAs) to post payments, adjustments, denials, and contractual write-offs.
- Identify and report denials, underpayments, zero-dollar payments, and payment discrepancies for follow-up.
- Balance daily payment batches and reconcile posting reports to ensure accuracy.
- Identify accounts requiring refunds or additional review.
- Research payment variances and resolve posting issues when appropriate.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with the billing team to improve workflow efficiency and maintain clean patient accounts.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of medical insurance terminology, EOBs/ERAs, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and payer reimbursement processes.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy.
- Basic computer, data entry, and math skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Medical Billing and Coding Certificate, associate degree, or bachelor's degree.
- One (1) year of experience in medical billing, payment posting, insurance claims, or healthcare revenue cycle.
- Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding.
- Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW).
- Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
Pay & Schedule
Competitive starting wages based on experience and qualifications
Hybrid, Full-time, Monday–Friday
