Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. About the Unit

Inpatient Medical Oncology at Missouri Baptist Medical Center is a 32-bed all-private unit caring for a mix of 65% medical, 10% oncological, and 25% palliative care patients.

Schedule

  • 2 - 12 hour shifts (Nights)
  • Every 3rd weekend and every 3rd holiday
  • Modified self-scheduling in 6-week periods
  • Orientation based upon individual need

Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
