Medical Oncology- Advanced Practicing Registered Nurse

Key Responsibilities / Expectations
- Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations for new and established medical oncology patients
- Independently manage follow-up and treatment-related visits in the outpatient clinic setting
- Assess, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic issues related to cancer and cancer therapies
- Manage treatment-related toxicities and symptoms (e.g., fatigue, nausea, pain, cytopenias, rash, neuropathy)
- Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests
- Prescribe medications and supportive therapies within scope of practice
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with supervising oncologists
- Care Coordination & Continuity
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, social work, nutrition, palliative care, and other disciplines
- Caregiver support
- Coordinate care transitions between clinic, hospital, and supportive services
- Ensure timely follow-up, surveillance, and survivorship planning
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions, including tumor boards, as appropriate
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program
- Board certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted NP licensure in Kentucky or eligibility to obtain Kentucky licensure
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in an oncology healthcare setting preferred. Experience in both inpatient and outpatient oncology care highly desirable
- National board certification as an APRN (Adult-Gerontology, Family, or equivalent) - Preferred
Skills
- Strong clinical knowledge of medical oncology, including systemic therapies and symptom management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and team collaboration
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency with electronic health records; EPIC experience preferred
