Medical Oncology- Advanced Practicing Registered Nurse

Key Responsibilities / Expectations

  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations for new and established medical oncology patients
  • Independently manage follow-up and treatment-related visits in the outpatient clinic setting
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic issues related to cancer and cancer therapies
  • Manage treatment-related toxicities and symptoms (e.g., fatigue, nausea, pain, cytopenias, rash, neuropathy)
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and supportive therapies within scope of practice
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with supervising oncologists
  • Care Coordination & Continuity
    • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, social work, nutrition, palliative care, and other disciplines
    • Caregiver support
    • Coordinate care transitions between clinic, hospital, and supportive services
    • Ensure timely follow-up, surveillance, and survivorship planning
    • Participate in multidisciplinary discussions, including tumor boards, as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program
  • Board certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted NP licensure in Kentucky or eligibility to obtain Kentucky licensure
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in an oncology healthcare setting preferred. Experience in both inpatient and outpatient oncology care highly desirable
  • National board certification as an APRN (Adult-Gerontology, Family, or equivalent) - Preferred

Skills

  • Strong clinical knowledge of medical oncology, including systemic therapies and symptom management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and team collaboration
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency with electronic health records; EPIC experience preferred
