Job Summary
Medical Office Clerk will provide administrative and front-desk support in a healthcare setting by greeting patients, scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate medical records, and coordinating daily office operations. Serve as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, hospitals, and community organizations while ensuring effective communication, patient eligibility verification, and timely access to medical services.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency. Medical terminology desired.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Licenses: Not applicable
- Experience: At least 12 months of experience in an office setting, preferably in a medical facility.
- Qualified typist with a minimum of 50 WPM is required.
- U.S. Citizenship is required
Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients/visitors at a front desk, information center or office setting.
- Answer main office phone line. Directs telephone calls to the appropriate section for assistance.
- Take messages as required.
- Arrange and schedule medical appointments and determine patient eligibility for services.
- Determine patient eligibility, schedule appointments, relay general instructions to patients, or make referrals to other sections.
- Obtain updates and file medical records as needed.
- Organize and research patient records, extract needed information, and review records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency within established guidelines.
- Ensure arrival of medical records prior to appointment(s).
- Initiate and locate patient medical records as needed.
- Obtain documentation as requested by healthcare providers (test results, or documentation not yet filed in records).
- Perform other administrative and clerical duties in support of the medical care and operational support.
- Create appointment schedules and templates in the patient appointment computer system.
- Conduct end-of-day process at close of business and resolve any delinquent or pending appointments in the computer system.
- Liaison with local hospitals such as the Veterans Administration Southern Nevada Healthcare System and surrounding community hospitals.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with patients, and base organizations to coordinate base access etc., medical professional network and community resources, and TRICARE.
Work Environment & Schedule
Onsite, Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm. 1-hour unpaid lunch. 40 hours per week.
Compensation & Benefits
Up to $19.00 per hour + H&W
Physical Requirements
The work is primarily sedentary. However, requirements include prolonged walking, standing, sitting or bending.
