Who We Are

The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) works at University Clinical Health (UCH), an independent and physician-led faculty practice plan of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. UCH provides comprehensive clinical care across 19 specialties to the Mid-South community without relying on taxes.

Position Summary

The MOA responsibilities include greeting patients and visitors, verifying their information in the Epic System, and performing automated appointment scheduling. They also maintain patients' medical charts and receive co-payments for visits, ensuring excellent patient and physician customer service.

Key Results Areas (KRAs)

  • Effectively checks in patients by greeting, verifying benefit coverage, verifying and updating FSC and demographic information, collecting and posting co-pay and self-pay balances, generating lab/procedure orders, pharmacy provider, obtaining complete medical history and HIPAA forms.
  • Effectively schedules patients from bump list and reminder.
  • Accurately creates and maintains charts in paper and electronic formats, effectively scans and indexes electronic records.
  • Accurately completes charge entry process and resolves registration and charge entry edits.
  • Accurately completes Payment posting process using Epic system.
  • Accurately generates no-show and missed appointment letters, sorts and distributes mail and faxes, sources translation services.
  • Meets patient and physician expectations in the check-out process by scheduling return appointments, procedures, collecting and posting co-pay and self-pay balance, coding accurately, and completing encounter forms.
  • Answers, screens, and directs incoming calls, and answers basic patient-related questions and/or problems.
  • Complies with Billing and HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical office setting.
  • Prior experience using a medical billing system is preferred.
