About The Role
The SAS Health Care Center (HCC) is looking for a Medical Office Administrator to join our team. Since 1984, the HCC has delivered high-quality healthcare for all age groups, from newborns to geriatrics, including managing complex chronic conditions, treating acute illnesses or injuries, and administering routine immunizations. This role provides administrative support to the HCC using medical terminology, phone triage, emergency response, and medical office procedures.
Responsibilities
- Greet and direct patients, inform nursing staff of patient arrivals, and update patient demographic information.
- Handle daily patient and provider correspondence, including incoming patient portal appointment requests.
- Schedule patient appointments, including specialty and follow-up visits, for a group of multidisciplinary providers.
- Manage incoming calls with an understanding of basic triage and sound judgment, recognizing emergencies or situations requiring clinical staff.
- Handle multiple phone lines and issues concurrently.
- Accurately record and route messages to the correct staff using an electronic health record.
- Answer questions based on HCC policies, procedures, and operations, referring when beyond expertise.
- Verify SAS health plan coverage/insurance codes for individuals requesting appointments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; coursework related to medical office administration is preferred.
- Typically requires four years of recent medical office experience in a primary care setting, including handling a large volume of patient phone calls and determining priority.
- Equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered.
