About the role

The Medical Materiel Specialist I performs general warehousing tasks, customer support, requisition, shipping, receiving, building medical kits, inventory management, Quality Assurance (QA), and cargo preparation and deployment. Responsibilities include handling medical controlled items stored in a secure location, operating materials handling equipment, and updating DoD MMIS records.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all assets in medical WRM assemblages/kits are accounted for and managed.
  • Assist in management of deferred procurement programs.
  • Ensure all assigned WRM assemblages are inventoried.
  • Assist in developing activation checklists for logistics activities.
  • Assist in maintaining shelf-life extension program (SLEP) and serve as SLEP monitor if required.
  • Maintain WRM continuity files.
  • Conduct monthly reviews and provide monthly reports to the COR of SLEP and DMLSS inventory records to ensure accuracy and program compliance.
  • Assist in the procurement of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Identify and determine proper storage locations (refer, hazmat, flammable, etc.).
  • Demonstrate use of PPE.
  • Package and ship temperature-sensitive materiel.
  • Verify incoming materiel for correctness in quantity and condition.
  • Research and resolve shipment discrepancies.
  • Identify controlled item markings.
  • Update MMIS/DMLSS with QA data of new or incorrect data.
  • Retrieve hazardous alerts and recalls, inspect storage locations for affected materiel, document actions, update MMIS/DMLSS, and perform disposition actions.
  • Provide customer support.
  • Assist in building kits and assemblages according to CONOPS and within allowance standards.
  • Attain certification/license to drive/operate materiel handling equipment (MHE).
  • Attain cargo certification to palletize and pack medical items and segregate special handling according to regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, day shift

Travel

10% to 25% travel is required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a logistics or warehousing field (medical logistics preferred).
  • Familiarity with MMIS systems and ability to learn and navigate DMLSS.
  • Ability to provide documentation of eligibility to legally work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa support.
  • Ability to pass client background screening for security clearance.
  • Experience working with medical supplies and equipment is preferred.
  • Prior exposure to DMLSS or other DoD logistics systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Forklift certification required or ability to obtain certification upon hire.

Pay

$19.40 per hour + $5.09 H+W (health and welfare) hourly benefit

Work Environment

The work environment involves a warehouse or distribution center setting. The area may be noisy, dusty, or involve exposure to fumes from forklifts or other equipment. Temperature can vary—some warehouses are climate-controlled, while others may be hot in summer and cold in winter.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing 25–50 lbs (sometimes up to 75 lbs with assistance).
  • Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift (often 8–12 hours).
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, and reaching to pick up or place materials.
  • May involve using ladders, step stools, or order pickers to access shelves.
  • Repeated motion of scanning, sorting, or packaging of materials.
