Your Specific Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyzes complaint documents/information.
  • Prepares subpoenas to obtain medical records and other pertinent documents.
  • Reviews and analyzes medical/hospital records, court records, lab reports, peer review records and other pertinent records.
  • Contact and interviews complainants, witnesses, and subjects.
  • Covers investigative activity through legal counsel as requested or directed.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports of final, supplemental and probation investigations.
  • Collaborates with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials and regulatory agencies as requested or directed by supervisor/manager.
  • Coordinates investigations with department legal/board staff regarding administrative hearings, subpoena service, administrative complaints, final orders, and disciplinary enforcement requests.
  • Testifies and/or presents evidence at administrative hearings, depositions, or trials.
  • Serves as member of the prosecution team as directed.
  • Develops and maintains up-to-date professional contacts with risk managers, hospital administrators, nursing directors and other health care providers.
  • Assists in allied health investigations as needed, participates in in-service training of medical investigative staff, conducts inspections, drug profiles and undercover investigations and serves as a mentor to new investigators, as directed.
  • Answers public inquiries, makes referrals, make public speaking engagements, make professional contacts, and promote the goals and mission of the Department including participation in Sterling (Platinum Odyssey) related activities and events.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Knowledge of computer data bases;
  • Knowledge and use of the compliance management system and licensing system used by the Agency;
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures and government rules & regulations;
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents;
  • Communicating effectively with others verbally and in writing;
  • Talking to others to effectively convey information;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others;
  • Listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate;
  • Conducting fact-finding research;
  • Knowing how to find information and identifying essential information;
  • Finding ways to structure or classify multiple pieces of information;
  • Writing detailed narrative investigative reports;
  • Planning, organizing and prioritizing work assignments;

  • Investigating and researching;
  • Inspecting and evaluating the quality of products;
  • Maintaining a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail;
  • Effectively managing time;
  • Making sound judgments;
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One (1) year of investigative experience.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience from one or more of the following fields: investigative, law enforcement, working in the juvenile or adult criminal justice system, regulatory inspections, regulatory compliance, resource protection, affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, regulatory work as a paraprofessional or higher, claims adjusting, auditing, financial examining, land appraisal work, human relations, personnel, working as a licensed healthcare professional regulated by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance.

Additional Requirement

  • Must have a valid driver license, satisfactorily complete a background investigation, fingerprinting, and participate in direct deposit are requirements for employment.
