Medical Laboratory Technician - PRN

About the Role

This PRN position requires availability to cover day or night shifts. The role involves performing laboratory tests in hematology, toxicology, microbiology, immunology, and chemistry, as well as collecting and processing patient samples for clinical laboratory analysis at all complexity levels to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Any position involving direct patient care is considered safety-sensitive by Avem Health Partners’ standards.

Responsibilities

  • Process laboratory specimens and report results across all areas of the clinical laboratory.
  • Maintain laboratory records.
  • Perform routine and stat laboratory assays.
  • Conduct qualitative urine analysis, including color, clarity, and specific gravity.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  • Maintain quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine maintenance and troubleshooting, and monitoring quality control measures and protocols.
  • Operate hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation equipment; perform manual methods of differentials.
  • Collect blood culture specimens properly, perform moderate complexity identification of organisms, and report findings to caregivers.
  • Ensure patients receive compatible blood/blood components by collecting, labeling, and processing samples properly for reference lab testing.
  • Keep the laboratory sterile and organized.
  • Maintain quality control practices in the laboratory.
  • Follow laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Science.
  • Generalist skill set in: General Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, ABGs, Urine Microbiology, Spot Testing, and General Blood Banking.
  • Computer proficiency.

Qualifications

  • MLT-ASCP Certification required.
  • Current BLS certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
