Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of Medical Laboratory Technology OR an Associate Degree in Science with a major/concentration in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a major Certifying Agency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological science with a “Plus One” concentrated year in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by a major certifying agency such as AMT or ASCP.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Driving report from Department of Motor Vehicles must be acceptable to the hospital’s liability carrier.
Requirements
- Medical Laboratory Technician: Performs laboratory tests and procedures including all test categories under CLIA ‘88. Performs and evaluates quality control, maintains and troubleshoots instruments. Performs phlebotomy and other specimen collection procedures as required. Knowledge of computer applications including ability to enter orders, enter charges, access records, process samples, report test results, and perform other processes such as outpatient registration for the hospital, offsite clinics, or clients as necessary. Functions as a member of laboratory backup call team when applicable.
- MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST: Performs and evaluates quality control, assists in method validation, maintains and troubleshoots instruments. Performs phlebotomy and other specimen collections as required including chain of custody collections. Assists in writing policies and procedures related to testing and updating said policies as required. Functions as a supervisor to take responsibility for day-to-day operation of laboratory section or offsite laboratory. Functions as a member of the laboratory backup call team as needed.
