Medical Laboratory Technician - Lake Children's M-F 1p-9p

Responsibilities

• Performs routine tests in various areas such as hematology, biochemistry, etc., using standard techniques and equipment.
• Makes qualitative determinations of sugar in urine, makes blood cell counts, and prepares and mounts specimens for microscopic examination.
• Performs an acceptable productivity level without a significant error rate on sample preparation and assay analysis.
• Prioritizes and organizes duties to meet the needs of laboratory customers and remains flexible to accommodate changes.
• Maintains an inventory of supplies to ensure efficient departmental operations and avoid duplication of energy and services.
• Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances to promote cooperation and minimize disruption to the working environment.
• Exhibits a professional manner, appearance, and performance in the approach to job-related duties to maintain high standards in the delivery of quality health care services.
• Performs all patient care duties in a manner that demonstrates a humanistic attitude for the physical and psychological needs relevant to the age of the patient served.
• Ensures quality is paramount in all aspects of daily functions and work processes, including specimen preparation, assaying, and result reporting.
• Performs quality control, instrument maintenance, and check procedures, and maintains accurate and complete records of daily activities.
• Combines ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory in decision-making processes and in the performance of procedures.
• Aids in the care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate/Specialized Training
• Completion of an MLT training program
• CLST
• Licensed in the state of Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician
• Temporary or letter of pending permit issued by LSBME
