Medical Laboratory Technician II (REG)

About the role

As part of BJC HealthCare, Parkland Health Center offers a unique combination of world-class medicine along with deep local roots. The laboratory provides outpatient diagnostic lab services as ordered by physicians to support quality patient care.

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) II performs specimen processing and routine/complex testing on blood and other specimens, requiring knowledge of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, procedure methodologies, and reference ranges. Maintains appropriate documentation of all activities.

Responsibilities

• Reports and maintains records of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn-around times for routine testing and stats.
• Documents patient test management problems/concerns on quality documents and initiates corrective action.
• Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
• Monitors quality control performance and corrects or reports any problems to the appropriate department.
• Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
• Performs laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, and test analysis.
• Trains new personnel in methods, procedures, and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
• Processes and analyzes specimens from inpatient, outpatient, clinic, long-term care, and external facilities.
• Performs instrument maintenance, calibrations, and quality control procedures.
• Assists with outpatient blood draws as part of the standard workflow at Bonne Terre.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience required.
• MLS certification required through ASCP, AMT, or AAB.
• Experience as an MT, MLS, or similar laboratory professional preferred.
• Associate's Degree in Physical/Life Science or related field.

Schedule

• Rotating/floater shifts:
• Days: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
• Evenings: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
• Nights: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
• Every other weekend rotation.
• Approximately 3 holidays per year.
