About the role

The medical laboratory technician performs generalist duties working all areas of the lab.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures.
  • Operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Performs quality control and assurance procedures.
  • Records lab results in specified system.
  • Follows all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards.

Requirements

  • Education: Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Experience: At least one year of clinical experience.
  • Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent.

Qualifications

  • Available Shift: Four 10-hour rotating evening shifts, every other weekend.

  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working outside in temperature extremes, working from elevated areas, working in confined/cramped spaces, performing job functions from kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, performing "pinching" operations, performing gross motor activities with fingers and hands, performing firm grasping with fingers and hands, performing fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reaching overhead, performing repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, using both legs, using lower extremities for balance and coordination, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, lifting/lowering objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lifting from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. unassisted, exerting up to 50 lbs. of force, maintaining 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes, seeing and recognizing objects close at hand or at a distance, matching or discriminating between colors, determining distance/relationship between objects; depth perception, having good peripheral vision capabilities, maintaining hearing acuity, with correction, performing gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, dealing effectively with stressful situations, working rotating shifts, working overtime as required, working in a latex safe environment, maintaining tactile sensory functions, if selected, maintaining good olfactory sensory function, if selected, being qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
