Medical Laboratory Technician - Blood Bank

About the role

The medical laboratory scientist is responsible for independently performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Testing is conducted in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, FDA, CAP, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulations and guidelines. Test results are utilized in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues
• Conduct standardized microscopic, chemical, and/or bacteriological testing
• Ensure all testing is performed in accordance with regulatory and guideline requirements
• Interpret test results and communicate findings to healthcare providers

Requirements

• Associates degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution
• High school graduate or equivalent with successful completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks and holding the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician)
• Eligible for ASCP, AMT or equivalent board certification exam
• Medical Laboratory Technician certification within 18 months of hire
