Kadiak LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking qualified and experienced Medical Laboratory Technicians to support our operations at Joint Base San Antonio, Lackland, TX. This position is covered under the Service Contract Act.

About the role

Successful candidates will play a crucial role in supporting our medical facilities by performing a wide range of laboratory tests and maintaining high standards of quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of clinical laboratory tests in various sections including hematology, chemistry, cytology, histotechnology, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and blood bank
  • Determine specimen suitability for analysis and prepare specimens accordingly
  • Prepare reagents and primary reference materials as necessary
  • Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain laboratory instruments
  • Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products
  • Prepare specimens for transport or mail/ship out
  • Handle and dispose of biological waste properly
  • Report unusual or grossly abnormal test results to section supervisor, pathologist, or laboratory supervisor
  • Perform light general cleaning of work areas
  • Assist in the preparation of laboratory reports
  • Record test results to flat logs and request slips and file reports in the MHS Genesis
  • Accession and order laboratory testing in MHS Genesis for clinic patients
  • Perform basic front desk administrative tasks, greet patients warmly, log-in lab orders, provide sample collection instructions, perform phlebotomy, and process patient samples for laboratory testing
  • Verify correct instrument operation and identify/resolve common problems
  • Obtain and correlate analytical data
  • Maintain proper records for quality control and quality assurance reports
  • Screen/order officer training school accessions for required testing (JBSA-L specific)

Requirements

  • Graduation from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or an educational program acceptable to the American Medical Technologist (AMT)
  • Minimum of 12 months of experience within the past 36 months
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or state licensure as a medical laboratory technician
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and Criminal History Background Check (CHBC)
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Workers certification by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Up to date on immunizations, including annual flu immunization
