Medical Laboratory Technician

About the role

As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment. You will work within Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, a healthcare organization with a legacy dating back to 1891, serving the Puget Sound area across 10 hospitals and nearly 300 care sites.

Responsibilities

• Conduct waived and moderate complexity laboratory procedures using technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems.
• Ensure quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge of laboratory principles across disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.).
• Process samples, interpret results, prioritize chemical and biological safety.
• Operate and maintain lab equipment, perform maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and contact vendor for assistance.
• Perform required calibration and quality control procedures, maintain records to ensure tests stay within established parameters.
• Complete proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders.
• Assist in evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for validation of new procedures and equipment.
• Provide excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of bias patterns, rapid notification of caregivers of critical values, and meet turn‑around‑time limits.

Requirements

• Associate of Science in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA (upon hire) OR
• High School GED/General Studies plus completion of an official military medical laboratory course and holding the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician) (upon hire) OR
• High School Graduate/General Studies plus completion of an official military medical laboratory course and holding the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician) (upon hire).

Qualifications

• Preferred: Medical Laboratory Technician certification – AMT, ASCP, or AAB (upon hire).

Pay

$27.98 - $47.16 per hour
