About the role

This role performs and interprets laboratory procedures related to unit and donor suitability testing, as well as other required assays, within a donor processing and manufacturing facility. The Medical Laboratory Technician operates both manual and automated analytical methods, ensures accurate and timely test results, and maintains compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices and all applicable regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform laboratory procedures related to unit and donor suitability testing and other required assays, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Interpret laboratory test results, analyze findings against established controls, and take appropriate action based on outcomes.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory procedures and methods, identifying and resolving issues that may affect test quality or turnaround time.
  • Perform routine analytical testing using both manual and automated methods and procedures in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Develop proficiency in laboratory information systems, including accurate entry, tracking, and reporting of samples and results.
  • Manage the workflow of samples to ensure timely processing and adherence to established timelines and priorities.
  • Complete all required maintenance and Quality Control (QC) activities following SOPs and document all actions accurately.
  • Work within current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) guidelines and adhere to all applicable regulatory and quality standards in the laboratory.
  • Share information and collaborate effectively with internal contacts and other laboratory departments to support problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Follow all safety regulations and comply with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and rules at all times.
  • Operate analytical instrumentation and technical laboratory equipment safely and correctly according to manufacturer instructions and laboratory protocols.
  • Perform and document troubleshooting and calibration of instruments and equipment, ensuring they function within defined specifications.
  • Perform and document routine preventive maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedules and procedures, and promptly notify appropriate personnel of issues.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and legible records of all testing, QC, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities in compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or in medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Eligibility to work as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT); licensure in the State of Tennessee is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related laboratory experience preferred, though recent graduates will be considered.
  • Experience or training in chemistry, medical laboratory procedures, and related scientific disciplines.
  • Intermediate to strong computer skills, including the ability to learn and use laboratory information systems and related software.
  • Ability to operate analytical instruments and technical laboratory equipment following established procedures.
  • Ability to interpret test results against set controls and recognize abnormal or out-of-specification findings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following SOPs, cGMP guidelines, and regulatory standards.
  • Effective communication skills to interact professionally within the department and with other laboratory departments.
  • Ability to follow safety regulations and HSE policies consistently in a laboratory environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) in the State of Tennessee is preferred and considered an asset.
  • Prior experience in donor processing, manufacturing, or a regulated laboratory environment is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and quality control processes in a laboratory or manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot instruments, perform calibrations, and conduct preventive maintenance according to established procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple samples and tasks within a defined workflow.
  • Interest in developing a long-term career in the medical or laboratory field, with motivation to learn and grow within a global organization.
  • Able to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment and contribute to a positive workplace culture.

Work Environment

The position is based in a combined laboratory and office environment within a donor processing and manufacturing facility. You will work with analytical instrumentation, technical laboratory equipment, and laboratory information systems while following strict SOPs, cGMP guidelines, and regulatory standards. The facility operates on a set shift with a standard daily operating rhythm, offering predictable hours and no on-call or STAT lab responsibilities typical of hospital settings. The work environment emphasizes safety, adherence to Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies, and a positive, supportive culture.
