Medical Laboratory Technician

About the role

This full-time, on-site Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist role is based in Kosciusko, MS. You will perform a broad range of laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis to deliver timely and accurate diagnostic results. You will collect and prepare specimens, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, monitor quality control, and ensure compliance with CLIA guidelines. You will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to interpret and document test results, maintain organized records of all laboratory activities, and support patient safety and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis in accordance with established procedures and CLIA guidelines.
• Collect, label, and process patient specimens accurately, ensuring proper handling, storage, and preparation for analysis.
• Conduct manual differentials, manual slide staining, and microscopic urinalysis with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Calibrate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analyzers to ensure reliable performance and minimal downtime.
• Monitor and document quality control results, identify variances, and take appropriate corrective actions to maintain test accuracy and reliability.
• Ensure compliance with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including CLIA standards.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals and laboratory team members to interpret, clarify, and communicate test results in a clear and timely manner.
• Maintain accurate and organized records of tests performed, quality control activities, maintenance logs, and other laboratory documentation.
• Protect patient confidentiality and uphold all privacy and data security standards in handling patient information and test results.
• Aid in training and supporting colleagues during cross-training or onboarding as needed, particularly on instrumentation and manual procedures.
• Contribute to a safe and efficient laboratory environment by following safety protocols, reporting issues, and participating in continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in laboratory testing methodologies in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis.
• Strong skills in calibration, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and analyzers.
• Experience with quality control protocols and adherence to CLIA guidelines.
• Demonstrated ability to perform manual differentials, manual slide staining, and microscopic urinalysis.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with healthcare professionals and team members.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through ASCP or an equivalent certifying agency, or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
• Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting (preferred, but candidates without prior experience may be considered).
• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and laboratory integrity.
• Ability to work independently on third shift while collaborating effectively with the broader laboratory team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Abbott Alinity (C and I) analyzers is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with Sysmex XN1000, Siemens CA600, and Siemens Advantus instruments is a plus.
• Eligibility for or possession of MLT/MLS certification through ASCP or an equivalent certifying agency.
• Willingness to train on new instrumentation and adapt to evolving laboratory technologies.
• Interest in professional growth and advancement within a growing laboratory environment.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, on-site position in a clinical laboratory setting located in Kosciusko, MS. The role primarily operates on the third shift, with training initially provided on day or second shift alongside another technologist and/or a laboratory manager. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, with the third shift ending on Saturday morning. You will work with modern laboratory analyzers and equipment, including Abbott Alinity (C and I), Sysmex XN1000, Siemens CA600, and Siemens Advantus, with training provided as needed. The environment emphasizes accuracy, safety, and adherence to CLIA guidelines, with a strong focus on teamwork, clear communication, and continuous improvement. The laboratory is growing and offers opportunities for professional development and advancement. Standard clinical laboratory attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety and compliance with laboratory protocols.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kosciusko, MS.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
