About the role
The Medical Laboratory Scientist at the LAB performs laboratory tests on patient specimens and provides information for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases. They maintain records of performance and utilize independent judgment to generate acceptable test results within quality control standards. They may participate in research and development activities, instruct students and staff on laboratory procedures, and develop and modify procedures as needed.
Responsibilities
- Maintain quality control and other records
- Use computer to enter and retrieve test results
- Make quantitative and qualitative observations
- Work independently and handle constant interruptions and concurrent tasks
- Maintain knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and protocols
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences
- One (1) year of relevant experience
- Certification or eligibility for board certification by ASCP; AMT; NCA or equivalent certification
Qualifications
- Knowledge of various complex and lengthy laboratory techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of specialized testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures
- Ability to use computer to enter and retrieve test results
- Ability to make quantitative and qualitative observations
- Ability to work independently and handle constant interruptions and concurrent tasks
- Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols
