Medical Laboratory Scientist per diem

About the role
Starting rate: $32.37/hour. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs waived and non-waived testing under general supervision, adhering to department standard operating procedures. This role requires a professional level of knowledge to interpret test results used in diagnosis and treatment. As a General Supervisor (CLIA-defined), the Scientist II may oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, including Quality Control (QC) review, staff training, competency assessment, and inventory management. Responsibilities include specimen processing, test performance, and reporting results.
Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, test analyses, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are handled identically to patient samples.
- Adhere to quality control policies, documenting all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
- Follow corrective action policies when test systems deviate from established performance levels.
- Identify and address problems affecting test performance or reporting, notifying supervisors as needed.
- Document corrective actions taken for test system deviations.
- Supervise assigned workstations, including QC review, staff training, competency assessment, and inventory management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Sciences required.
- Certificate/Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Sciences required.
- 1–2 years of laboratory experience required.
- Medical Technologist certification (ASCP) [MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists] from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) required.

Pay
Pay range: $26.63 – $38.70/hour (Grade 6). Compensation is based on skills, experience, education, certifications, and other relevant factors. Additional benefits, career advancement opportunities, differentials, premiums, and bonuses may apply.
