Medical Laboratory Scientist or Tech / MLS or MLT

This is a variable shift, PRN position for a Laboratory Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Technician (MLT) in Amarillo, TX.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis
• Performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation
• Participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training and proficiency testing when assigned
• Displays technical expertise necessary to ensure timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures
• Ensures specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines
• Demonstrates proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider
• Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
• Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results
• Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students or interns including lectures and bench techniques
• Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity
• Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport

Qualifications

Required

• Baccalaureate Degree or Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, or a chemical, physical, or biological science degree

Preferred

• ASCP or equivalent certification
• Certification within a specific area (e.g., M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP))
• Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory
