Responsibilities

• Perform complex microbiological tests on patient specimens to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
• Interpret and report test results accurately and promptly.
• Collaborate with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to provide the best patient care.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate results.
• Develop and implement new laboratory procedures and protocols.
• Conduct research to stay abreast of developments in microbiology and to contribute to the field.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and regulations.
• Train and mentor junior staff and students.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Assist in the management of the microbiology laboratory, including inventory management and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with a focus on microbiology.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
• Advanced knowledge of microbiological testing techniques, procedures, and equipment.
• Proficiency in laboratory information systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to maintaining high quality standards and ethical professional conduct.
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to participate in continuing education and professional development activities.

Pay

$38 - $61 per hour
