About the role

This role is a hospital-based position at HUMC in Hackensack, NJ.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports to physicians.
  • May assist in answering client or lab personnel questions.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting, or minimum of 3 years clinical experience in Molecular and Gram Stain experience.
  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
  • ASLR, MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.

Skills

  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work independently, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Interpersonal skills for dealing courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
  • Communication skills for handling client information confidentially.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
