Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument/equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain turnaround time for results, including STAT or critical results, and perform and document QC analysis.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits are dated and properly stored, and inform supervisory personnel of any issues.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports to physicians.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practices as directed.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
  • Participate in government/regulatory agency inspections.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting, or minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.
  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Communication skills, confidentiality, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and proficiency in Laboratory Information Systems.
  • ASCP Certification preferred.
  • MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.
