Location: BSWH Medical Center, Waxahachie, TX – Laboratory Department. Shift: Night, 7-on/7-off, 8:30 PM – 7:00 AM.
About the Role
The Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 performs and monitors a full range of laboratory tests and research. Assumes responsibility for problem resolution, quality control, and equipment maintenance with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Performs laboratory tests in compliance with department procedures and all pertinent regulatory requirements.
- Follows quality control, quality assurance, safety, and infection control procedures.
- Performs instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Accurately reports test results.
- Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies.
- Maintains effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers.
- Participates in laboratory projects and educational activities.
- Demonstrates and educates laboratory methods and technical skills to others.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
- Less than 1 year of experience required (new graduates welcomed).
- Must hold ASCP certification or an equivalent credential as an MLS generalist. Preferred: at least 2 years of experience in a hospital lab setting.
Qualifications
Required certification from one of the following issuing agencies:
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP): ASCP-BB, ASCP-C, ASCP-CG, ASCP-CT, ASCP-H, ASCP-IH, ASCP-M, ASCP-MB, ASCP-SBB, ASCP-SC, ASCP-SH, ASCP-SM, SCT, SCYM, SMB
- American Board of Histocompatibility (ABHI): CHS-ABHI, CHT-ABHI
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)
- Grandfathered HEW Licensee: CLS, HEW, MLS, MT
Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory regulations, protocols, and procedures.
- Statistical and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions.
- Ability to perform laboratory protocols and procedures.
- Skill in the use of computers and related software applications.
- Knowledge of safety and infection control standards.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
