Medical Laboratory Scientist - Core Lab - Day
Responsibilities
- Performs routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate.
- Operates a variety of laboratory instruments.
- Maintains quality control and instrument check procedures and related records.
- Inoculates, cultivates, classifies, and identifies microorganisms found in bodily fluids, exudates, skin scrapings, autopsy and surgical specimens.
- Determines compatibility of donor blood products with intended recipient.
- Counts, describes morphology of, and performs specialized studies on blood and other body fluid cells.
- Performs coagulation testing.
- Prepares and maintains reagents, and other solutions and stains according to standard formulas.
- Trains other employees in day-to-day procedures.
- Consults with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services.
- Performs surveys and comparative analyses of work units; participates in research activities and investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects, and recommends as is appropriate.
- Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.
- Identifies safety concerns, instrument issues and other opportunities for process improvement, collaborating with others in problem solving.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Required and College Diploma As part of CAP requirements, a college diploma is required provided the field of study is indicated on the diploma.
- Completion of student clinical rotations.
- Required or College Transcript Required.
- Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP within 1 year Required.
- Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - ASCP within 1 year Required.
- Certified Medical Technologist - ASCP within 1 year Required.
- Certified Specialist in Blood Banking - ASCP within 1 year Required.
- Certified Specialist in Chemistry - ASCP within 1 year Required.
- Certified Specialist in Cytometry - ASCP within 1 year Required.
- Certified Specialist in Hematology - ASCP within 1 year Required.
- Certified Specialist in Microbiology - ASCP within 1 year Required.
