Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate.
  • Operates a variety of laboratory instruments.
  • Maintains quality control and instrument check procedures and related records.
  • Oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating, and monitoring work.
  • Performs surveys and comparative analyses of work units; participates in research activities; investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects, and recommends as is appropriate.
  • Inoculates, cultivates, classifies, and identifies microorganisms found in bodily fluids, exudates, skin scrapings, autopsy and surgical specimens to provide data on cause, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases.
  • Groups or types blood of donors and recipients; determines compatibility of donor blood products with intended recipient.
  • Performs chemical and/or immunological tests to identify and/or quantify substances found in blood and other body fluids.
  • Counts, describes morphology of, and performs specialized studies on blood and other body fluid cells. Performs coagulation testing.
  • Consults with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services.
  • Trains other employees in day-to-day procedures.
  • Participates in department specific and/or system-wide projects of varying scope and duration.
  • Aids in implementing policies and procedures for department operation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree Required and College Diploma As part of CAP requirements, a college diploma is required provided the field of study is indicated on the diploma.
  • Required or College Transcript Required.
  • Work Experience: 3 years In Medical technology or a related science. Required and 5 years In Medical technology or a related science.
  • Preferred Licenses: Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Medical Technologist - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Specialist in Blood Banking - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Specialist in Chemistry - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Specialist in Cytometry - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Specialist in Hematology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Specialist in Microbiology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Specialist in Molecular Biology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Technologist in Blood Banking - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Technologist in Chemistry - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Technologist in Cytogenetics - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Technologist in Hematology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Technologist in Microbiology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Technologist in Molecular Biology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - AMT Upon Hire Required or Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - AMT Upon Hire Required or Certified Molecular Diagnostics Technologist - AMT Upon Hire Required or Medical Technologist - ABOR Upon Hire Required.
