Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Conducts basic and advanced tests on blood samples, both donor and patient, to ensure proper transfusion of blood and blood products.
  • Recognizes and resolves discrepancies observed in blood specimens or laboratory equipment; determines procedures to be followed according to preliminary serological results of the specimens; maintains records of transfusions.
  • Gains experience and develops a working knowledge by performing routine and complex procedures utilizing complex instrumentation and manual methods.
  • Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation, and reporting of results.
  • Performs and keeps accurate records of equipment maintenance and quality control.
  • Refers problems and unusual results to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs clerical and support services as needed.
  • Responds to customer needs and requests.
  • Participates in proficiency testing of unknowns and internal and external continuing education.
  • Participates in continuing education programs related to laboratories.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or Medical Technology required
  • ASCP Certification or Eligible based required
