Medical Laboratory Scientist
About the role
Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are handled and tested similarly to patient specimens.
Responsibilities
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
- Review and release test results.
- Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
- Adhere to quality control policies and document all activities.
- Identify and address issues affecting test performance or reporting.
- Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established specifications.
- Report STATS or critical results to clients.
- Answer questions from customers or other lab personnel.
- Maintain complete records of all testing performed.
- Maintain the department's appearance.
- Ensure reagents/test kits have proper dates and are stored correctly.
- Train on new procedures.
- Attend department and educational meetings.
- Participate in safety training sessions.
- Respond to government or regulatory agency inspections.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications
- BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433 published in March 14, 1990.
- Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation).
- US educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.
- National certification as an MT / MLT from a recognized organization (ASCP or AMT).
- 1 year Clinical experience (high complexity testing) preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in highly complex testing for those with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.
- National and State licensure as required.
- A solid understanding of basic laboratory testing is required.
- Good computer skills and ability to adapt to multiple computer systems.
- Knowledge of QC and QA, and all areas of the laboratory.
- The ability to prioritize work and handle multiple procedures simultaneously.
- Good customer service skills.
- Confidentiality of patient information.
