About the role
Avera St. Lukes, a company based in Aberdeen, SD, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures, and related duties.
- Utilizes scientific principles and technical, procedural, and problem-solving skills for day-to-day laboratory operations, quality control, quality assurance, instrument maintenance, and corrective action.
- Accurately performs basic to complex clinical laboratory tests using theoretical knowledge and established protocol, techniques, and equipment manuals.
- Distinguishes between normal and abnormal clinical laboratory parameters and ensures all abnormalities are rechecked. Alerts appropriate staff and documents actions.
- Communicates laboratory data and technical information accurately and promptly to relevant departments and individuals.
- Critiques, correlates, and differentiates test results using theoretical knowledge and established protocol, techniques, and equipment manuals.
- Participates in the development of protocols, lab manuals, new instrumentation, lab CQI, or other laboratory developmental activities.
- Provides technical guidance to and serves as a primary resource for various team members.
- Trains new employees or co-workers on new equipment/procedures as applicable.
- Collects specimens as necessary and provides instructions on proper pre-analytical specimen collection, handling, and storage guidelines for various body fluids.
Requirements
- Must be able to work the specified hours.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in Medical or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science, or Medical Technology.
- Must hold an MLS from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) within one year or an MLS from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within one year.
