Medical Laboratory Scientist
About the role
Analyze biologic specimens of human origin in order to quantify or qualify clinically relevant properties. Integrate and transmit information so derived in an effort to assist in the diagnosis or monitoring of human disease.
Responsibilities
- Laboratory Techniques: Perform various laboratory tests and procedures, such as blood analysis, microbiology testing, chemistry, hematology, or molecular diagnostics.
- Equipment Handling: Use laboratory instruments and tools like microscopes, centrifuges, analyzers, spectrophotometers, and automated diagnostic machines.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze laboratory results, identify trends, and interpret data accurately, often using specialized software for data processing and reporting.
- Quality Control: Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, conduct calibration, and ensure the quality and accuracy of test results through internal validation and external audits.
- Lab Safety Protocols: Adhere to laboratory safety regulations, infection control measures, and handling of hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Clinical Knowledge: Understand clinical pathology and laboratory medicine, working with laboratory tests that diagnose or monitor medical conditions.
- Documentation and Reporting: Document lab results, maintain patient records, and create reports in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the lab operates within legal and ethical boundaries, familiar with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA (in the U.S.) or other local standards.
- Use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS): Proficient in using LIS software to manage test results, track patient data, and generate reports.
- Sterilization and Sample Preparation: Prepare and store samples, sterilize tools and equipment to prevent contamination.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or closely related biological or chemical field.
- 1 year of experience as Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.

Pay
The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
