About the role

All KANA positions are based in Kodiak and are not eligible for remote work. Applicants must reside in Kodiak or be willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Serves the organization's mission and goals, quality standards, and patient-centered medical home philosophy.

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines, accreditation requirements, and quality control standards.
  • Participates in evaluating and implementing new test methodologies or instruments.
  • Analyzes and reports laboratory data accurately and timely to healthcare providers and patients.
  • Collaborates with other departments for patient care and effective communication of results.
  • Aids in delivering training programs for lab staff, ensuring proficiency in testing techniques and safety practices.
  • Completes training and proficiency testing in areas such as hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, etc.
  • Maintains accurate records of lab activities, test results, and quality control measures.
  • Helps monitor inventory levels and coordinates procurement of supplies.
  • Occasionally interacts with patients to explain test procedures and ensure comfort during specimen collection.
  • Collaborates on research projects, exploring new testing methods and technologies.
  • Attends lab and department meetings, contributes to discussions on improvement.
  • Supports the lab's emergency response plan and ensures a safe working environment.
  • Stays current in the field through education and engagement with professional organizations.
  • May provide counseling and training as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or relevant Science Degree that is nationally registered or licensed as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of general laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing situations, developing, and implementing appropriate solutions; must be able to effectively and efficiently make decisions independently.
  • Strong interpersonal are required as well as effective writing, speaking and reading comprehensive skills.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
