Medical Laboratory Scientist

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory tests on patient specimens and provides information for the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of diseases. Maintains records of performance and utilizes independent judgment to generate acceptable test results within quality control standards. May participate in research and development activities and act as a key resource person for staff inside and outside of the department. Instructs students, laboratory, and non-laboratory staff on laboratory procedures and techniques. Performs all tasks according to standard operating procedures and may work on the development and modification of procedures.

Schedule

• Full-time, evenings (Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM–9:30 PM)
• Rotating weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on patient specimens for diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of diseases
• Maintain records and ensure test results meet quality control standards
• Participate in research and development activities
• Serve as a resource for laboratory and non-laboratory staff
• Instruct students and staff on laboratory procedures and techniques
• Follow standard operating procedures and assist in developing or modifying them
• Assume additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences
• One (1) year of relevant experience
• Certification or eligibility for board certification by ASCP, AMT, NCA, or equivalent (must be obtained within 12 months of employment)
• Knowledge of complex and lengthy laboratory techniques and procedures
• Familiarity with specialized testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures
• Ability to maintain quality control and other records
• Proficiency in using computers to enter and retrieve test results
• Analytical skills for making quantitative and qualitative observations
• Ability to work independently, handle interruptions, and manage concurrent tasks
• Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols
