Medical Laboratory Scientist
About the role
The laboratories of Indiana University Health offer comprehensive laboratory services, performing over 19 million tests annually. Located at Fishers Hospital in Fishers, IN, this position operates on a part-time, evening shift schedule, working 4 days per week from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with occasional weekend work.
Responsibilities
- Maintain records of performance and generate acceptable test results within quality control standards.
- May participate in research and development activities.
- Act as a key resource person for staff inside and outside of the department.
- Instruct students, laboratory and non-laboratory staff on laboratory procedures and techniques.
- Perform all tasks according to standard operating procedures.
- Assume additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
- One (1) year of relevant experience.
- Certification or eligibility for board certification by ASCP, AMT, NCA or equivalent certification.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of various complex and lengthy laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of specialized testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures.
- Able to maintain quality control and other records.
- Able to use computer to enter and retrieve test results.
- Analytical skills to make quantitative and qualitative observations.
- Ability to work independently; handle constant interruptions and concurrent tasks.
- Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols.
