About the role

The laboratories of Indiana University Health offer comprehensive services, performing over 19 million tests annually. This role supports patient care by analyzing specimens and providing diagnostic information.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory tests on patient specimens
  • Generates acceptable test results within quality control standards
  • Maintains records of performance
  • May participate in research and development activities
  • Acts as a key resource person for staff inside and outside the department
  • Instructs students and non-laboratory staff on laboratory procedures and techniques
  • Works independently, handles interruptions, and manages concurrent tasks
  • Maintains quality control and other records
  • Uses computer to enter and retrieve test results
  • Makes quantitative and qualitative observations
  • Adheres to laboratory safety regulations and protocols

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences
  • One (1) year of relevant experience
  • Certification or eligibility for board certification by ASCP; AMT; NCA or equivalent certification

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of complex and lengthy laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of specialized testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures
  • Ability to maintain quality control and other records
  • Ability to use computer to enter and retrieve test results
  • Analytical skills to make quantitative and qualitative observations
  • Ability to work independently and handle constant interruptions and concurrent tasks
  • Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols
