Medical Laboratory Scientist

About the Role

As a critical diagnostic expert, you will perform complex laboratory tests to ensure accurate, timely results vital for patient diagnosis and treatment. You will execute a wide range of analytical procedures across various lab disciplines (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, etc.), analyze specimens, operate and maintain instruments, interpret results, and conduct quality control. Your role is essential in providing crucial data for clinical decisions, requiring a strong scientific foundation, advanced technical proficiency, exceptional problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform and report waived, moderately complex, and highly complex test procedures on patient specimens, adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Provide excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-around-time limits.
• Ensure major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures; including contacting the instrument vendor for assistance or repair.
• Perform required calibration and quality control procedures and maintain records to ensure tests are performed within established parameters.
• Perform proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders.
• Assist in the evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide physicians with the most current laboratory technology.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Lab Science, Medical Technology, or a related field defined by CLIA (required).
• Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, or equivalent by ASCP (preferred).
• May consider Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) qualified candidates for a similar position.

Pay

$29.36 - $43.68 per hour.
