Medical Laboratory Scientist

Location: Le Mars, IA. Regular full-time position (40 hours/week). Primarily evenings with rotating weekends and holidays.

Join our award-winning Laboratory Department as a Lead Medical Lab Scientist or Lead Medical Technician. Evening position Monday‑Friday (3 pm‑11 pm) and every 5th weekend (6 pm‑6 am). Responsibilities

• Serve as a resource to lab staff
• Maintain inventory for chemistry and microbiology departments
• Train new staff and conduct competencies
• Update policies and procedures and activate troubleshooting when necessary
• Provide phlebotomy on adults, children, and infants via venipuncture, capillary, or direct arterial puncture
• Perform routine and special laboratory testing, recording, and reporting results within established turnaround time
• Interpret analytical findings to assess compliance with hospital and industry standards
• Perform specimen collection, handling, processing, and testing following established procedures
• Perform instrument maintenance, calibrations, and function checks
• Assist in evaluating new tests/procedures; perform QC, proficiency testing, and remedial action for unacceptable results

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
• 2 years of Microbiology experience
• Previous hospital laboratory experience
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from ASCP or AMT required within 12 months of hire
• BLS certification (preferred; required as employee)
• Mandatory Reporter training certificate (preferred; required as employee)
