About the role
Performs a variety of routine and advanced laboratory tests and procedures ranging from waived to high complexity testing, in one or more sections of the Clinical Laboratory. Professional application of the principles, theories and techniques of medical technology are used to produce reliable test results that aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of routine and advanced laboratory tests and procedures ranging from waived to high complexity testing, in one or more sections of the Clinical Laboratory.
- Applies principles, theories, and techniques of medical technology to produce reliable test results that aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment.
- Recognizes problems, identifies the cause (technical or instrumental), creates alternatives, and determines solutions.
- Communicates facts and ideas to a variety of persons, both within and outside the laboratory.
- Evaluates procedures, equipment, and people (peers, students, and subordinates).
- Works independently when necessary.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Must be registered or eligible for registration through a nationally recognized certification agency.
- Must be able to perform complex analyses, which require a defined network of steps and variables.
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships.
- Must be able to recognize problems, identify the cause (technical or instrumental), create alternatives, and determine solutions.
- Must have communication skills in translating facts and ideas to a variety of persons, both within and outside the laboratory.
- Must be responsible for own work and decisions and be able to supervise and teach others.
- Must be able to evaluate procedures, equipment, and people (peers, students and subordinates).
- Must be able to work independently when necessary.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of principles of growth and development and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status.
- Ability to identify patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs, providing the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
