About the role
This role performs a variety of administrative tasks to support the assigned clinical function in the Pathology office. Additional general work in the Laboratory Department may also occur.
Responsibilities
Office Duties
- Accession patient reports for additions and corrections to patient information
- Prepare conference cases for pathologists
- Handle and track incoming and outgoing non-hazardous patient material within the laboratory information system
- Receive and distribute packages and mail throughout the laboratory
- Send and respond to fax requests
- Assist providers and customers over the phone
- File and organize non-hazardous patient materials
- Manage the scheduling of pathologists
- Promote patient standards of accreditation agencies and state licensure requirements
- Follow Essentia Health rules and policies to ensure safety and quality
Laboratory Duties
- Collect specimens through venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other miscellaneous specimens (urine, swabs, etc.)
- Perform specimen processing and handling according to testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing
- Perform laboratory testing, when applicable, per accreditation and licensure requirements
- Participate in training of new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate
- Follow Essentia Health rules and policies while handling specimens and equipment to ensure safety and quality
Requirements
- Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program OR complete an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within 1 year of hire
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification
- Recent specimen preparation and processing experience
Schedule
Day rotation, no weekends, no holidays, no call obligation.
Pay
$19.57 - $29.02 per hour
