Medical Lab Technologist

Key Responsibilities

• Determine normal and abnormal components of blood and body fluids through chemical analysis.
• Analyze blood cells using automated and microscopic techniques.
• Prepare blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusion, including conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
• Select and issue appropriate products for transfusion.
• Ensure proper operation of analyzers and laboratory equipment by calibrating, performing preventative maintenance, and arranging for repairs as needed.
• Complete records and reports accurately for master files or databases.
• Perform all testing in accordance with standard operating procedures, manufacturer’s instructions, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods. Manual dexterity to handle laboratory equipment and specimens. Visual acuity to interpret test results accurately.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a school approved by NYSED.
• Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a hospital-based clinical laboratory (preferred).
• Licensure: NYS Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist / Medical Technologist.
• Soft Skills: Attention to detail. Strong analytical skills. Effective communication. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Adaptability to changing priorities and schedules. Commitment to quality and patient safety.
