About the role
Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses with limited supervision. The MLT's job includes preparing the samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously and accurately interpreting the results in a timely manner in order to enable the clinician to utilize the data when making treatment decisions.
Responsibilities
- Prepare samples for examination
- Use automated equipment and specialized instrumentation
- Perform numerous complicated tests simultaneously and accurately interpret results
- Interpret results in a timely manner to support clinical decision-making
- Complete training in at least two rotations within the first six months of employment, as required per hospital
- Possess language, math, and reasoning skills necessary for data analysis and procedure execution
- Possess good communication skills with the public and other hospital staff
- Contribute to other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate degree in chemical science, biological science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
- National Registry for Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or equivalent) preferred
- Must be registry eligible
- Must complete training in at least two rotations within the first six months of employment, as required per hospital
- Possess language, math, and reasoning skills necessary for data analysis and procedure execution
- Possess good communication skills with the public and other hospital staff
