Medical Lab Technician - Helen Keller Hospital, Laboratory, PRN, Shift Varies

Responsibilities

• Conducts routine tests for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Performs blood tests and studies blood constituents for diagnostic purposes.
• Carries out bacteriological, mycological, virological, and parasitological tests to identify causes and track progression of diseases.
• Provides quality specimens for testing, ensuring correct patient identification and proper documentation.
• Maintains and updates laboratory instruments, being familiar with their operations and limitations.
• Ensures accurate results through quality control and troubleshooting procedures.
• Completes testing within specified turnaround times, including STAT, urgent, and routine cases.
• Validates all specimen results before reporting them.
• Assumes departmental responsibilities to maintain compliance with CAP standards.
• Follows safety protocols and practices safe work methods.
• Affords assistance in continuing education and procedure updates.
• Assumes departmental responsibilities to ensure ongoing adherence to CAP standards.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate Degree in a science field preferred.
• Training: Completion of an approved medical laboratory technician training program or equivalent.
• Experience: None required.
• Skills: Must be certified or eligible for certification as a medical laboratory technician by the ASCP, AMT, NCA, or AAB.
• Other: Demonstrated ability to work in a high-stress environment, remember multiple procedures and policies, and willingness to work flexible hours.
• Knowledge: Understanding of safe work practices.
