Job Description
- Supervises workflow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area
- Affirms accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens
- Fulfills all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens
- Fulfills regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens
- Fulfills proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens
- Effectively communicates with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers
- Utilizes AIDET as applicable
- Attends CARES training
- When necessary, ensures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers
- Answers telephone in a polite and efficient manner
- Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees
- Affirms department testing, applicable to their area, is reported in an accurate and timely manner
- Maintains and expands skills through participation in continuing education programs
- Ensures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control
- Assists with training of students and new employees
- Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives
- Stays abreast of regulatory changes
Qualifications
- Associate of Arts degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a CAHEA/NAACLS accredited program; required
- ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician, preferred within 12 months after incumbent’s graduation form an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician Program. Willing to consider 10 yrs of experience in a clinic or hospital laboratory in lieu of certification. NOTE: If ASCP certification has recently lapsed, employee will have 90 days to complete continuing education and recertification requirements If the credential has lapsed >10 yrs, the employee must retake the certification exam. MLTs credentialed prior to 2006 are grandfathered and do not have to complete the continuing education requirement.
